As reported by the historian Palma, the ancient church of "S. Maria ad Campilium” was the curacy of Campiglio, Pastinella and Masseri, fiefdoms of the Melatino.

According to the historian, the toponym derives from one of the many patronymics of the Latin word “campus ”(field). The parish church dates back to the 17th century. Inside, a valuable Madonna Enthroned, Nocellese terracotta dated 1710.
