Parish church of S. Pietro in Pensilis

Categories: Churches and Places of Worship

According to Palma, the Parish Church of S. Pietro in Pensilis, in the hamlet of  Pagannoni Inferiore, was known in the past as "in Pensulis", "in Pesulis" or "in Pisulis", other times "in Pesculis". The historian also reports that the etymology derives from a "land divided into small "measures or weights "or from a "bottom planted with peach trees" Inside, on the altar, an altarpiece enclosed in a twisted wooden frame depicting" Christ observing Saints Peter and Paul from above "(XVI-XVII century), with a dedication by D. Marcello Buccadossi, canon of the Campli’s cathedral, perhaps made by one of his nephews. Among the various sacred furnishings: the gilded metal tabernacle , the clothed statue of the Virgin, a processional wooden cross with the symbols of the Passion, the wooden statues of St. Peter the Apostle, St. Vincent Ferreri and St. Anthony of Padua. A dedicatory plaque dated 29 January 1570 with the name of the client of a chapel located in the Pagannoni area.
