Church of S. Maria a Pastignano

Categories: Churches and Places of Worship

Nicola Palma writes that the Church of S. Maria a Pastignano was a curacy (managed by a curate).

On an external wall, now decaying and abandoned, you can see a quadrangular stone with an engraved cross; in the arms of the same a star with six rays and two heraldic lilies. The main altar of stone in decay, part of the floor, the perimeter walls and the bell gable remain.

In the three niches visible behind the altar were the statues of the Madonna, S. Antonio from Padova and S. Vincenzo Ferreri, later transferred to the parish Church of S. Pietro in Pensilis in Pagannoni Inferiore.

Inside there was also a chapel dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario. The temple was under the patronage of the Melatinos and was obliged to pay the Easter professor to the bishop of Teramo and the quartadecima in wheat. It was part of the appurtenances of the Collegiata dei SS. Mariano and Giacomo di Nocella, Campli district.
