In the hamlet of Paterno the Church of S. Donato Vescovo, today in its nineteenth-century appearance.
Dedicated to the holy bishop and martyr, patron saint of Arezzo, much venerated in Abruzzo as a protector against epilepsy. In the region he is often depicted holding a small crescent moon: it is believed that the disease is linked to the phases of the moon.
In the past a destination for devout processions and pilgrimages. Built in brick and with the lateral walls in the shape of a shoe, it has a “double sloping” facade with a portal also in brick; on the sides there are two niches housing the statues of Christ and the Madonna.
In the middle of the facade a lunette with a stained glass window depicting the dove of peace. In the back of the building there is a small bell gable with a bell.
