The Church of the Madonna delle Piane in the Castelnuovo district was built by incorporating a fifteenth-century votive shrine of the Umbrian-Marche school. The image depicts an enthroned Virgin nursing her Son between two standing angels in adoration and with lilies in her hands. The fresco has been the subject of great popular devotion for centuries, as evidenced by many graffiti engraved on the plaster. In the intrados the "SS. Antonio Abate and Giacomo Maggiore ". On the external wall above the fresco, an "Annunciation": the Madonna and the Archangel Gabriel both inserted in two circles on the sides of the aedicule, below, the "SS. Joseph and Francis of Assisi ".
