Campli, a widespread museum between heaven and earth
Campli is immersed in the lush greenery of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. History, art and spirituality blend with the beauty of the natural landscape, creating a widespread museum between heaven and earth. The village, which joined the Club The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy in September 2018, is a small treasure chest, a perfect combination of works of art made by man and enchanted scenery shaped by nature.
The territory
The Twin Mountains surround Campli’s territory with their majestic profile, (appearing) a millenary
witnesses of the first traces of residential settlement, from the Iron Age to the present day. The Pretuzi, among the first inhabitants of the place, have enriched the whole area of central Italy with precious evidence of their civilization clearly visible in the archaeological area of the Necropolis of Campovalano. The thread of history unravels and passes the baton to the medieval era, during which the village was built on the gentle plateau between the valleys of Siccagno and Fiumicino streams. The little and romantic streets, surrounded by historic buildings, arcades and churches lead the visitor to the main square that welcomes him with the warm stone which the two monuments symbol of the glories of the Middle Ages were made with: the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Platea and Palazzo Farnese, seat of the town hall.
The Holy Stairs and the Marian Shrine dedicated to the Madonna Immacolata Protectress of Campli preserve within a strong sense of spirituality that has permeated Campli for centuries.
Time passes slowly
Time passes slowly inside the village which is the ideal place to spend a holiday discovering knowledge and flavors that are waiting for nothing but to be known to surprise and amaze the visitor.
The landscape all around offers products with an unparalleled taste that become, through traditional recipes, delicious dishes that cannot be missed on the table, like his majesty the Italic porchetta of Campli and the intoxicating truffle of Campovalano.
From the village to the mountains, the step is short. From Campli it is possible to reach Monte Foltrone where you can recharge your batteries by immersing yourself in an uncontaminated environment to spend time in direct contact with nature.
The scenario that opens from the top of the summit, at 1718 meters above sea level, is of a breathtaking 360 degree panorama, which ranges from the Adriatic Sea, to the Teramo hills, from the Majella, to the Gran Sasso and to the Monti della Laga, bringing with it, impressed in the heart, snapshots of pure beauty.
