The 12 municipalities of Val Vibrata
From Campli it is possible to reach in no time the beautiful Vibrata valley, an area characterized by green hills, rivers, towns and villages perched on rocky spurs.
As first stop we head to Civitella del Tronto here we can admire the beautiful and ancient fortress that dominates over the entire valley and is remembered for being the last bastion of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies which surrendered to the Piedmontese 3 days after the coronation of King Vittorio Emanuele II.
At the center of this immense and verdant valley we find the municipalities of:
- Sant’Egidio alla Vibrata, known worldwide for its textile industries;
- the ancient fortified village of Ancarano, in which we find beautiful architectural testimonies such as the church of the Madonna Tonna and an ancient Roman spring;
- Torano Nuovo, famous for its food and wine culture and its exquisite typical products;
- Corropoli, which houses an Acropolis built on the remains of an ancient pagan temple dedicated to the Goddess Flora and a prehistoric village dating back to about 5000 years ago;
- Sant’Omero, famous for having been founded by Charlemagne;
- Nereto, another important industrial and commercial center;
- Controguerra known for being the city of wine and oil that preserves ancient architectural beauties such as the tower of the Ducal Palace;
- Colonnella, full of splendid views ranging from the Gran Sasso and the Monti della Laga to the sea, passing through the valleys of the Tronto and Tordino rivers.
Moving towards the sea we can reach the coastal municipalities that are part of the Val Vibrata: Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica and Tortoreto, known for their beaches of fine sand, crystal clear waters and the perfect promenade for long walks or bike rides.
